Elon Musk Sells Gene Wilder's House to Wilder's Nephew: Variety

gene wilder house

I remember seeing you in Willy Wonka movie and probably a few others as I was younger. You know you where good at what you did. I have to say you did not leave here not doing what you loved. You definitely loved what you where doing.. After seeing all wonderful things being said about Gene Wilder today, I can only say that I concur.

The Slamdance Film Festival is moving to Los Angeles with its next edition

Grodin persuaded him to leave the studio and begin studying with Strasberg in his private class. Several months later, Wilder was accepted into the Actors Studio. He also liked "Gene" because as a boy, he was impressed by a distant relative, a World War II bomber navigator who was "handsome and looked great in his leather flight jacket".[15][16][a] He later said that he could not see Gene Wilder playing Macbeth, either. Growing up, Mr. Wilder was part of the movies and shows that made us laugh and enjoy family time together. He was a good actor, but the character I enjoyed the most was Willy Wonka.

For Anne Hathaway, going five years without booze is a bigger milestone than ‘middle age’

Walker-Pearlman recently shared with The Wall Street Journal that his purchase of his late uncle’s home from Musk had been a rather unique experience. The filmmaker stated that he actually spent summers in the Bel-Air home with his uncle, and his experiences in the house made him intimately familiar with the property. Wilder’s first two marriages, to Mary Mercier and Mary Joan Schutz, ended in divorce. While making the comedy “Hanky Panky” in 1982, he met former “Saturday Night Live” star and actor Gilda Radner. The two married in 1984 and remained together until Radner’s death from ovarian cancer in 1989.

Lifestyle

Wonka and Wilder’s own creation of Young Frankenstein‘s Victor Frankenstein are iconic for how they spill over from equanimity to explosions of pure wrath. (As Brooks says, “He’s sweet, simple and honest — but when he got excited he was a volcano”). Together these roles are the apogee of Wilder’s creative genius, but the documentary, directed by Ron Frank, takes a more holistic approach. Wilder died from complications of Alzheimer’s disease on August 28, 2016, in Stamford, Connecticut.

Director Jordan Walker-Pearlman bought the house from Musk in October 2020

Just off an Oscar nomination for Hester Street, she was waiting for the phone to ring; Wilder was astute enough to see that Kane could be funny and the world is better for it. The marvel of the film, which elides Wilder’s first two marriages and anything untidy about his personal life, is in how it makes you appreciate even some of his career lowlights. After graduating from high school, Wilder studied communication and theater arts at the University of Iowa, following that with a year studying theater and fencing at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in Bristol, United Kingdom.

Elon Musk Sells Former Home of Gene Wilder to Wilder's Nephew With One Catch - SM Mirror.

You were such a bright light in what can sometimes feel like a very dark world. My deepest condolences to your family, and May your light continue to shine upon your family and loved ones guiding them along the way and bringing them a smile as only Gene Wilder can do. Famous Actor's such as Gene Wilder will be missed by many who loved him as a family member, a friend, and a great actor. Heaven has recieved Gene Wilder to always bring smiles and laughter with his great sence of humour. When the film was done, Wilder answered a few questions with his wife, Karen, about how he got the role, about his love for Madeline Kahn, and about his friend Richard Pryor.

HUGE loss to the entertainment industry! May God be with his family and friends and provide genuine comfort to get through this difficult time. Radner divorced Smith, and she and Wilder were wed on Sept. 14, 1984, in the south of France. They appeared together in The Woman in Red (1984) and Haunted Honeymoon (1986) before she was found to have stage 4 ovarian cancer in October 1986.

Now records reveal he’s unloaded a second house, the former Gene Wilder estate, for exactly $7 million in another off-market deal. That’s $250,000 more than he paid for the property in 2013, a profit that quickly evaporates once taxes and seven years of upkeep costs are factored into the equation. Back in 2020, Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced that he would be offloading all his residential properties in California as a way to trim down his possessions. Musk, who owned Wilder’s house, noted that whoever purchases the late actor’s home would have to preserve it. Musk did make improvements to the home like a Tesla Solar Roof installation and Powerwall batteries, but for the most part, the property still retained the spirit it had when Wilder was still living in it. The Wilder estate was built in 1951 and spans 2,756 square feet.

1964: Theatre roles

Although he smiled as he entered the athletic event, his frail appearance and thin white hair ledsome media outlets to speculate that Wilder’s non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma had returned, according to Page Six. The actor had been diagnosed with the cancer in 1997, but he told CNN in 2002 that he was in complete remission. Gene Wilder was an actor, comedian, and filmmaker. We will always remember him for playing the role Willy Wonka on Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. Blazing Saddles was a western like no other, and it set out to offend every viewer equally, becoming a cult classic.

But, as he explained to The Times in 1977, what saved him from his darkest self was his unfailing ability to tap into an imaginative streak of comic insanity that also ran deep inside him. Wilder is survived by his fourth wife, Karen, whom he married in 1991, and other relatives. Born Jerome Silberman in Milwaukee on June 11, 1933, Wilder began performing at a young age, eventually studying at the Old Vic Theatre School in Bristol, England, in the mid-1950s. Returning stateside, in 1956 he was inducted into the Army for a brief stint. In 1961 he became a member of the Actors Studio in New York, studying with Lee Strasberg, and adopted the stage name Gene Wilder. Wilder poses in France with his wife, comedian Gilda Radner, during the 10th American Film Festival of Deauville on Sept. 7, 1984.

The two had great affection for each other, though Wilder later recalled being frustrated by her neediness. While trying to become pregnant, Radner was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and passed away in 1989. To honor her memory, Wilder started Gilda's Club, a support group for cancer patients. As it is with many stories involving Musk, Walker-Pearlman’s journey into acquiring his late uncle’s home started with a dose of misinformation. According to the late actor’s nephew, he was initially told that the home had been demolished, which made him mourn the house.

Elon Musk has made good on his promise to sell the former estate of Gene Wilder — and the buyer is Wilder's nephew, according to Variety's James McClain.

Elon Musk Buys Gene Wilder's Former House In Bel Air For $6 75 Million PHOTOS

Rest in Peice my dear friend...you gave us many years of laughter and More to come I am sure. Lost one of the world’s greatest entertainers today… You will be missed Gene Wilder. Absolutely terrible news about Gene Wilder, such an amazing entertainer and a true loss to the world. You filled so many childhoods, mine included, with wonder, laughter & joy.

Ty Burrell Leads Roku’s Comedy Take On 1950s Drama ‘Tightrope!’; Bryan Cranston EPs

Though the property has been updated since Wilder owned the place — the late “Willy Wonka” actor sold it in 2007 — it retains much of the original design’s spirit. There are 5 bedrooms and 4.5 baths, plus a private guest cottage and a kidney-shaped swimming pool on the premises, which are securely gated for privacy. The house itself is invisible from the street, hidden behind a dense wall of tall privet hedges and overgrown ivy. At the time of his May 1 declaration, the CEO of rocket maker SpaceX noted he would sell the Bel Air home belonging to the late Young Frankenstein comedy legend, which he purchased in 2013 for $6.75 million. However, “it cannot be torn down or lose any its soul.” On Rogan’s podcast, Musk said that was still the case and gave more details about the house.

More From the Los Angeles Times

He started appearing with some regularity in off-Broadway and Broadway shows. In a 1963 production of Mother Courage and Her Children, he met Anne Bancroft, who introduced him to her boyfriend, Mel Brooks. Wilder and Brooks became fast friends, and Brooks decided he wanted to cast Wilder in a production of the screenplay he was writing, The Producers. Wilder made his movie debut in Arthur Penn’s landmark 1967 film “Bonnie and Clyde” as an undertaker taken hostage by the notorious depression outlaws Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker. But it was his turn a year later in “The Producers” that brought him stardom, cementing a relationship with Brooks that would yield some of his most memorable performances.

Newswire

But while he was in the neighborhood one day with his wife, the filmmaker was pleasantly surprised to see the house still standing. Tesla CEO Elon Musk owned the home then, and a large party was underway. Quite surprisingly, the security guard in the property opened the gate for the couple so Walker-Pearlman and Hunter could peek inside. Filings eventually revealed that the estate was sold to an LLC whose sole manager was listed as Elizabeth Hunter, a screenwriter and TV producer who happens to be married to filmmaker Jordan Walker-Pearlman, who is Wilder’s nephew.

He was a actor who was good to his fans. He will be remembered with the laughter he brought us as we continue to watch him in films. Mr. Wilder was a part of some sweet childhood and teen movie memories. Willy Wonka, The Frisco Kid and the Woman in Red to name a few that I loved. He seemed so kind and funny, and always was someone I had hoped to meet.

Life as a Writer

Pryor was supposed to play Bart, but Wilder said the studio objected, and Little ended up playing the part. Twice divorced, Wilder met Radner while they were starring in the comedy Hanky Panky (1982), directed by Sidney Poitier. She was married to Saturday Night Live bandleader G.E. Flush with the success of Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein, Wilder made his directorial debut in The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes’ Smarter Brother (1975), which he also wrote and starred in.

Pryor accepted the role in the film, which had been renamed Silver Streak, the first film to team Wilder and Pryor. They became Hollywood's first successful interracial movie comedy duo.[38] While filming Silver Streak, Wilder began working on a script for The World's Greatest Lover, inspired by Fellini's The White Sheik. Wilder wrote, produced, and directed The World's Greatest Lover, which premièred in 1977, but was a critical failure.[39] The Frisco Kid (1979) was Wilder's next project. The film was to star John Wayne, but he dropped out and was replaced by Harrison Ford, then an up-and-coming actor. Wilder's first professional acting job was in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where he played the Second Officer in Herbert Berghof's production of Twelfth Night. He also served as a fencing choreographer.[14] After three years of study with Berghof and Uta Hagen at the HB Studio, Charles Grodin told Wilder about Lee Strasberg's method acting.

In 1994, Wilder starred in the NBC sitcom Something Wilder.[49] The show received poor reviews and lasted only one season. He went back to the small screen in 1999, appearing in three television movies, one of which was the NBC adaptation of Alice in Wonderland. The other two, Murder in a Small Town and The Lady in Question, were mystery movies for A&E TV that were cowritten by Wilder, in which he played a theater director turned amateur detective. Wilder's remaining work consisted of television movies and guest appearances in TV shows. Variety reports that Musk never lived in the Wilder estate.

Gene Wilder‘s passing at the age of 83 from complications with Alzheimer’s disease was a surprise to many – and that’s how the iconic actor wanted it. And so it’s not fair to hold any actor to Wilder’s example. He made us all laugh, just like the doctor ordered. When he was a child, a doctor told Wilder (then Jerome Silberman) to never argue with his mother, who had a heart condition. Wilder also wrote, directed and starred in 1975's The Adventure of Sherlock Holmes' Smarter Brother and 1977's The World's Greatest Lover. While Young Frankenstein was a hit and achieved a huge cult following, the others failed to gain positive critical response and were commercially unsuccessful.

My sincere condolences to his family and friends for the loss their beloved one...May you all be strengthen by our Heavenly Father to endure their loss. Wilder, who is best known for his work in films such as Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Young Frankenstein and Blazing Saddles, also earned a best supporting actor nomination for his role in 1967’s The Producers. The star, beloved by many for decades of work in film, died Sunday at his home in Stamford, Conn., due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease, his family announced Monday. With rare home videos and scenes from Wilder's films, the documentary looks at the life and career of actor, writer, and director, Gene Wilder. It includes interviews with former cast and crew members as well as personal memories from family and friends, who share their love for his comedic genius. Among them are Mel Brooks, Wilder's wife, Karen Wilder, Alan Alda, Carol Kane, Harry Connick Jr., Mike Medavoy, Rain Pryor, Dick Cavett, Eric McCormack, Ben Mankiewicz, and Peter Ostrum.

Wilder knew something of mental illness. In the army, he was stationed in a hospital, where he witnessed soldiers going through psychotic episodes. Chalamet — who tried and failed to pull off the forward roll — can’t be faulted too much for missing Wonka’s thunderclouds.

Apart from Wilder and Chalamet giving life to Willy Wonka, Johnny Depp also took a turn as the character in Tim Burton’s 2005 Charlie and the Chocolate Factory remake. Josh O’Connor is currently starring in Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers and recently revealed what character he would love to play in the future. God Bliss Mr. Wilder, truly one of the greatest comedic actors of the last century.

He went on to write, direct and star in The World’s Greatest Lover (1977), for which he also composed a song performed by Harry Nilsson, and played a bumbling Polish rabbi in the Old West in The Frisco Kid (1979). He also thrived on the stage in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest as the repressed Billy Bibbit (played by Brad Dourif in the 1975 film adaptation) and as John Quincy Adams, Rutherford B. Hayes and other characters opposite Helen Hayes in The White House. The comic actor also starred in classic films such as The Producers, Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein. In September 2015, fans raised concerns about the actor’s health when he appeared at the U.S. Open Grand Slam tennis tournament with Boyer.

I never cried over any actors like i did for gene, I grew up on willie wonka, That was my favorite child hood movie, I also loved silver streak and hear no evil and see no evil and stir crazy.. Sending my prayers to his family and now he is up in heaven.. Even tho I never met him, It seems like i knew him for years... Wilder’s final team-up with Pryor on the roundly rejected Another You also marked his final film appearance, his later years filled by less ambitious projects.

There will never be another Gene Wilder....And now your back with Gilda....RIP GENE. We lost one of the most wonderful and very funny actor ever been. Gene Wilder u will be very much missed and your legacy will go on.

In 1963, the Milwaukee native appeared on Broadway opposite Anne Bancroft in Jerome Robbins’ Mother Courage and Her Children. The actress introduced Wilder to Brooks, her future husband, and the couple invited him to Fire Island, where he got a look at the first 30 pages of a screenplay titled Springtime for Hitler. Wilder’s nephew, Jordan Walker-Pearlman, said that the actor died Sunday night at home in Stamford, Conn., after a three-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. The home once belonged to longtime actor Gene Wilder, who sold the home in 2007 for $2.75 million. Wilder is best known for his roles as Willy Wonka in "Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory" and Dr. Frankenstein in "Young Frankenstein."

Americans don’t realise that cream or half and half ruin tea. Finnair cancelled my flight 12 hours prior to leaving for Helsinki. They stated there were mechanical problems. I had to scurry around to find a new flight that would meet my needs for arrival in Helsinki. Luckily I was able to find alternate transportation through Lufthansa/United.

The plane wasn't there yet so we had to wait for it to arrive, then deplane everyone and then wait again for the plane to be cleaned. After 45 minuites we were allowed on the plane. The first plane had mechanical issues. The 2nd plane must have had bathroom issues because we did not have any food service whatsoever. That made for a long time not to have anything considering that we had just made it to the original gate and we had no time to stop to get food or a drink. Then we didn't want to leave the gate to get food because we wouldn't know how much longer the delay would be.

Instead I'd book direct with AA. We did not get to Phoenix until almost 3 hours after we were originally supposed to. This was the first and last time I will be flying Frontier. The flight was delayed by 3.5 hours and the American Airlines staff at the airport where nit very helpful. Once boarded, the flight crew were unhelpful, the food was poor and the aircraft was tatty. We were directed to go to a gate across from our gate.

This section gives an overview of the flight schedules and timetables of every airline with direct flights for this route. The guy with severe body odor sat next to me. For the whole duration of the flight it was a torture.

Very disappointed about lack of electrical ports. There was enough time to hand out snacks to comfort + seats as was done for first class. First the good, everyone was friendly and efficient. Flight was smooth and plane was very clean and new.

Our original business class flight was cancelled so we not only downgraded but we were also spread out across the plane not sitting together in separate middle seats. My poor kids were scared and couldn’t see me on the flight and the crew wasn’t sensitive to the situation and what the airlines did to us. Very dissatisfied with United airlines.

I liked the friendly crew and desk staff, all very helpful. I was surprised and a little annoyed on my outbound flight from LGW to MCO as I had prepaid and booked my seat, which was all correct at check in on my boarding pass. When I got on the plane someone was in my seat ! The food choice is quite limited and I feel that an option of a muffin for breakfast snack would be welcomed, not everyone wants egg or bacon wrap. — Duke Energy today announced that Duke Energy Plaza, the 40-floor office tower currently under construction in Uptown Charlotte, will become the company’s new corporate headquarters. Formerly known as Metro Tower, Duke Energy Plaza will house approximately 4,400 employees and allow the company to reduce its overall real estate footprint in the Charlotte area and reduce costs to benefit customers. Located on the southernmost edge of uptown Charlotte, the Duke Energy Center anchors the Levine Center for the Arts.

Since 2022, helped customers access nearly $377 million in financial support

According to the Edison Electric Institute, the national monthly average for typical residential customers was $171.67 as of Jan. 1, 2023, before other utilities go through their own rate adjustments. Hodges Taylor is Charlotte’s longest-running gallery and consulting firm, founded in 1980. The women-owned gallery focuses on promoting Southeastern artists in a range of mediums and curating and presenting artists who share in common the power to spark curiosity, conversation, and collaboration. Duke plans to cut its Charlotte office space by about 60%, saving $90 million over five years.

The NoDa That Was: The Loss of an Arts District

Together, the sculpture and video are designed to capture the movement of time and light, creating an immersive experience for employees and visitors alike. The new real estate plan continues the company’s efforts to best house its approximately 6,000 employees and contractors in Charlotte to continue delivering affordable, reliable and increasingly clean energy, as well as customer-focused products and services. After a thorough review of the company’s current and future real estate needs in Uptown, the company also plans to exit the Duke Energy Center located at 550 South Tryon Street and Piedmont Town Center in South Park. Once the new tower is complete, the company plans to sell its 526 Church Street and 401 College Street facilities and exit 400 South Tryon Street. The plan will consolidate the space the company occupies in the Charlotte area over the next several years with the goal of reducing its footprint from approximately 2.5 million square feet to approximately 1 million square feet.

Another first-time aspect of this rate approval is the implementation of performance incentive mechanisms (PIMs). First allowed by North Carolina’s clean energy legislation (HB951), PIMs advance state policy goals through financial incentives and penalties that encourage utility performance in areas of shared interest with customers. The city will partner with Carolina Solar Energy, a North Carolina-based solar energy company, and Ecoplexus, an international solar energy company with offices in Durham, N.C., to build the solar farm, which is expected to be fully operational in 2022. Duke is consolidating much of its real estate holdings and office sites into this single building, projected to be the home of about 4,000 Duke employees. The site was previously home to a surface parking lot on South Tryon Street across from 550 South Tryon, the former Duke Energy Center.

Wells Fargo has announced it would exit its lease at One Wells Fargo Center at the end of 2021. The company has been consolidating its Charlotte footprint with leasing the entire 300 South Brevard building,[19] expanding their employee space in the building following Duke's departure,[20] and relocating additional employees in Three Wells Fargo Center. Duke Energy Progress, a subsidiary of Duke Energy, owns 12,500 megawatts of energy capacity, supplying electricity to 1.7 million residential, commercial, and industrial customers across a 29,000-square-mile service area in North Carolina and South Carolina.

The art consulting firm provides services to both corporate and individual collectors and develops projects that integrate works of art into every aesthetic, environment, and concept. Over its forty-two-year history, the company established an extensive network of relationships with artist partners, reliable vendors, and industry contractors and consistently partners with and supports the arts community. Duke Energy was named to Fortune’s 2023 “World’s Most Admired Companies” list and Forbes’ “World’s Best Employers” list. Spokesperson Neil Nissan said the company is adopting a new flexible workplace model built on lessons learned during the pandemic. The company is adopting a new workplace model where some office employees will work onsite or remotely full-time, but the majority of office employees will have a hybrid schedule where they will split time between working in the office and working remotely. But for others in the Triad, particularly in more rural parts like Liberty, the transition could prove more challenging.

“Any time employers stand up and say, ‘Hey, we’ve got really good-paying jobs,’ students pay attention to that, and they flock to that,” Dr. Clarke said. Kevin Bangston, the chief executive of Thomas Built, said the company had hired more than 300 workers over the past 15 months. But he has found it difficult to hire for more skilled jobs that handle automated processes in the factory. But like many manufacturing regions, its fortunes started to decline in the 1970s. Jobs in textiles started being moved overseas or automated, furniture contracted with the arrival of cheaper Chinese imports, and tobacco contracted because of a decline in smoking.

High Point became known as the home furnishings capital of the world, with the city and surrounding areas accounting for 60 percent of the country’s furniture production at their peak. Along with furniture, Greensboro and Winston-Salem specialized in textiles and tobacco. And while the Research Triangle of Raleigh, Durham and Chapel Hill had renowned universities in the University of North Carolina, Duke and North Carolina State, the Triad had Wake Forest University.

This area was to have been shared by Wachovia and Wake Forest University, which was to use it for its MBA courses. It would have taken up 45,000 square feet (4,200 m2) and housed approximately 750 traders per floor.[8] Wachovia would also have used floors 36 through 48. Examples highlighted include the many ways in which Duke Energy offers customers options for controlling their energy use, as well as the assistance it provides to its customers in need. Over the past two years, the company has helped customers access nearly $377 million in financial support through a dedicated agency team of customer advocates.

Ivan Toth Depeña is an artist currently based in Charlotte, NC, after having lived and worked in Miami, FL and New York, NY. With a master’s degree in Architecture from Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design, Depeña’s artistic production is informed by his experience in art, architecture, technology and design, and encompasses a range of media. Depeña pursues the intersection between different disciplines with the aim of choreographing the moment when these aspects come together seamlessly. Using traditional avenues such as drawing, painting and sculpture then interweaving interactivity/responsiveness, video, light and high-tech methods of fabrication, Depeña explores the fine line between chance and intention. "Some employees will be working on site. Some will be working remotely full-time. But the majority of our office employees will have a hybrid schedule, where they're going to be splitting time between the office and working remotely," Nissan said. "And because of that, we're able to really reduce the amount of space that's required for our employees."

The cast-in-place concrete frame structure was constructed in record time, featuring long-span precast concrete floor panels for typical floors, topped with a steel framed crown. The signature handle bar design of the crown frames views to other downtown buildings. The open area below the bar contains cooling towers as well as a unique articulating-arm building maintenance machine. Duke Energy is executing an aggressive clean energy transition to achieve its goals of net-zero methane emissions from its natural gas business by 2030 and net-zero carbon emissions from electricity generation by 2050.

Duke Energy’s illumination features stories about people, innovations, community topics and environmental issues. Passersby outside Duke Energy Plaza’s main entrance on South Tryon Street will be greeted with two illuminated sculptures by Charlotte-based artist Ivan Toth Depeña. The pieces visualize photons, the smallest particles of light not visible to the human eye and the basis for solar generation. Behind the sculptures – the larger of which is nearly 40 feet tall – the building’s façade will feature a six-story panel with a silhouette of Depeña’s interpretation of a photon, creating a striking backdrop to the towering works of art. Duke Energy was named to Fortune’s 2021 “World’s Most Admired Companies” list and Forbes’ “America’s Best Employers” list.

This dynamic development transformed four acres of surface parking lots on three separate blocks within Charlotte’s Center City into a vibrant mixed-use district including office, retail, cultural arts and future residential uses. The tower features custom-designed daylight-harvesting blinds that reflect an abundance of natural daylight into the building, reducing the amount of energy used for lighting. Automatic daylight sensors, electronic dimming controls, and occupancy sensors further reduce the need for artificial lighting.

The company worked with Hodges Taylor, a Charlotte-based gallery and consulting firm, to facilitate the search for artists whose practices and designs reflected Duke Energy’s commitment to inclusion and a clean energy transformation. An immersive installation by Chicago-based art duo Luftwerk will be inside Duke Energy Plaza’s Experience Hall, an extension of the main lobby and casual gathering space during normal business hours. Titled Journey of the Sun, a sculpture of 85 colorful, translucent glass discs will be suspended from the ceiling in a slender, figure-eight curve representing the sun’s path across the sky over the course of a year. The piece also features complementary motion graphic animations to be displayed along the space’s nearly 60-foot-long AV wall.

Standout vendors include beloved Curry Gate, Korean street food vendor Seoul Good, and franchise Dock Local, which promises tried-and-true Connecticut and Maine lobster rolls (hot and cold, respectively). Okra fries, a fried chicken sandwich at a gas station, and other things you must eat in Asheville, North Carolina. In a lot of ways, Charlotte is still a teenager trying to figure out who it’s going to be. Sure, this town has technically existed since 1768, but we weren’t invited to sit at the Big City table until the early 2000s. That might explain why Charlotte doesn’t really have that one tangible dish. What’s our version of the juicy lucy in Minneapolis, the half-smoke in DC, or hot chicken in Nashville?
